2D 2013/5 Homework

Huge sci-fi weapons, robots...the recent homeworks seem to be exactly my weak points.

I had no idea what kind of robot to design. I made some really random sketches, but didn't like any of the ideas.

What exactly IS a robot?! I mean, I know what it is, but...a robot could be anything! So I went to Wikipedia to find the answer for my question. And there I found out that...EVERYTHING is a robot. Just as a feared.

  

I saw something about industrial robots though and then I remembered about some really cute and interesting animations with robots I've seen on Discovery Science. I searched for them and found their original designs.

So I decided that I want to make something like that as well. I searched for some more information and images about industrial robots. It turned out and most of them are very similar and mostly look the same. And they are orange. 

I used those as reference and made a sketch.

Then I began modeling in Maya.

 

I wanted it to be some orange colour, but when it rendered it turned out yellow for some reason. 

 

I still decided to go with that and painted over it until I got the finished result:

 Unfortunately it doesn't have a shadow on the ground. But I didn't know how to do it in Maya and it was looking very weird and blurry in Max. I need some help with that.
